Heavy Ordnance is an in-development retro-inspired shooter in first- & third-person perspective where you play as an escaped science experiment on a rampage against the evil corporation that created you.

Absorb energy to get stronger, tougher & fatter as you smash your enemies with brutal melee attacks and blast them with powerful firearms.

Version 0.2 contains the first two levels (~30 minutes of gameplay) and the data structure for future releases, so you can pick up where you left off once they come out.

Planned features:

  • more levels & enemy types: probably some fat creatures to fight
  • branching story paths: based on energy collected, objectives completed etc.
  • more macro/micro stuff: getting really big/really small

Hello, I have found a way to create a "creative" or "god" mode in the game (but without modifying the code of the game)

(and, it also has spoilers for future game updates!)

(to the creator): can i explain it?

(+1)

I'd prefer that you didn't! The unused assets & systems in the current release are unfinished and will most likely be different in the final build. I'd rather keep the new systems a surprise & not share the half-baked stuff before it's ready. Thanks for asking.

ok

I understand that the game is not done yet.

And that in the end it could be different but...

Your game is still super amazing so far.👍

And, i am happy just to know that the game is still being developed.

And , thanks for the reply.

great game! though i do have a bug to tell you about, when you replay a level with no suit you can't use the boosters needed to get past certain obstacles. for example, right after getting the suit on the first level you can't get to the platform after as a boost is required.

Thanks! When playing the first level with no suit you're supposed to do a mid-air tail spin to get up there, which I am now realizing is pretty non-obvious. I should probably add a pop-up or an extra platform or something. I remembered to make the second level beatable with no suit, at least.

ohhh that makes sense, thanks for telling me!

pretty intriguing! definitely enjoyed the time spent with it, re-runs included. the AI's surprisingly fun to chase around, and everything else feels like it responds pretty tightly. the bigger sizes translate pretty well, too - that's a HUGE plus. I can't wait to see more of this! I'll keep a close eye on any updates in the future. much love!

(+1)

Holy hell, I just played this and am having too much fun!

there is definitely some learning curve to it which could be mitigated by some more levels in the future that slow down and incrementally introduce specific movement, and maybe a way to better avoid incoming fire from enemies like a way to lean against walls and expose only a small portion of body, also that could be used as a disadvantage of getting larger~

Wonderful game and looking forward to future updates!~

Thanks! It's true there's not much in the way of a movement tutorial. Hopefully any future required platforming isn't too crazy.

In the 90s shooters this game is inspired by the cover system is "standing behind something", it's kind of grandfathered in. I've thought about making a more modern cover-based shooter before, but that's probably not the direction this project is going to go in. Will probably explore more size-related disadvantages though!

Surprised I haven't heard of this already- quite the competent game! The enemy animations look nice, the AI is competent, and shooting has good feedback. Lots of little things, that just feel correct.

If I was going to complain, I'd say the melee seems a little sluggish, since you can't move during the windup, hit, or reel back. I'd suggest a bit more range on the melee, and switching up the slowdown to be less interruptive to movement.

(+1)

Thanks!

I'll look into implementing something like this, I might end up adding a single blending value for the lead-in to melee attacks so I don't have to add a curve to every animation.

j'ai hate de voir la suite

Great game, but drops frames at random.

(+3)

Thanks! I think I can probably make the code enemies use to search for cover more efficient, and I recently realized the SMG & pistol models (which I made several years ago) have way too many polygons for some of the most numerous weapons.

I'm also going to look into adding bespoke options for the individual graphical settings, but until then lowering the quality present and/or resolution might help.

it is a very good game

its awesome game, thanks for creating this game.

Can you please add more body epansion in this game?

Also i think in this game need more enemies on levels, bec we cant reach higher energy level from enemies. 66% on 1 level is too small... I thiink. And 14#% on level 2 is too small to. I think energy level which you can reach on level 1 is need to be 125%, and on level 2 is 250%. With more body expansion :3.

I will waiting for updates.  :)

(P.S. Add please female gender for character, I mean do breasts and butts sliders bigger(need add butts sliders). and more body expansions :3. Thet all what i want to say. Have a nice day friend =).  )

[Redacted: I donate you all what I have for now =). I'll be sure, you'll update game, and when I got time and money, I'll donate you more for this game ♥️. it's first time when I donate someone for game which I like =), wait for donate from me, I like this project more than all what I downloaded before... And have a nice day and mood!]

I will  wait  for answer, about what you think about this?

(+2)

Larger sizes are happening in future updates, I don't think I'm going to add boob & butt sliders. I disagree that the energy levels are too small, that's... why I designed the game like that. Thanks for donating.

ok, wait for more =)

And thanks for reading this. We will wait for updates, good luck at this day!

I feel that there should be a thing where the character moves slower at higher energy but everything else (health and regen, damage, defense (damage reduction)) increases

(+1)

You have more momentum at higher energy. I think reducing movement speed generally feels pretty bad for most games, but especially action shooters.

Melee damage and damage reduction both increase as energy increases. It might be a bit subtle before 100%, though.

(+1)

how do I open the file its in a format I don't recognize

(+1)

I compressed it using 7zip. You need to download 7zip (or WinRar or another archival utility) and extract the files, then you should be able to run the .exe.

(+2)

Great game, though the game still drops frames heavily in some places, especially in the first room on the first map. Seems to be caused by the particles after smashing the water tank

(1 edit) (+1)

That's definitely the cause, I forgot to fix this. Just uploaded a version that replaces the particles with a mesh, which should solve the frame rate issue there,

(+1)

Am i mistaken or is there a way to go beyond 56% energy in level 1. I feel like i might be missing something there.

(+1)

That's the maximum in the first level, yep. There's some secret stuff but not any extra energy.

(+2)

Thank you for making this. I had a great time playing it :3

(+1)

will this continue? it was really fun to play

(+2)

Thanks! I'm working on the next level, it's possible that it will take a while.

(1 edit) (+1)

gib more pls

In all seriousness, the game as it stands is phenomenal. Gameplay is engaging, mechanics work pretty well and, from the available portion at least, is designed pretty well around the current limitations.

All in all, a very promising project! Will be keeping my eye on this one for sure.

(+1)

Also, forgot to say that this game reminds me so much of Half Life for some reason.

(+2)

Thanks! The basic idea is Half Life + MDK by way of e621. The soundtrack (which I did not make) is doing a ton of work to sell the late 90s shooter vibe.

(+1)

This was really good actually, loved it. Wish you could get bigger though, lol, but I'm sure that'll come in future updates. Amazing so far though

(+1)

this game was so good, i cannot wait for more to be added

(+1)

I love this. Cant wait for more!

(+4)

WOW! genuinley STUNNING mechanics, gameplay, ai and more. I REALLY can't wait for more!!!

(1 edit) (+3)

Really good game!! I loved the music, the part with the whale-like sounds was amazing, and the whole thing sounded kinda like half life OST. It'd be nice if you added that when you do the stomp attack the character stops moving,  as it may be a little too hard to use. Also, would you mark the file as "for windows"? I think there's somewhere you have to mark it to be able to download from the itch app. Overall very good game, I loved it!

(+2)

Thanks! I was specifically going for Half Life OST selecting the soundtrack, Half Life 1 is a major influence! I might add a downward force on the stomp. Also marked the file for Windows, thanks for reminding me.

(+1)

Thanks to you! I just checked out your other games, they're amazing! Keep up!

If I could make 2 little suggestions, could you maybe make the player a bit slower as they get heavier? Feels a little bit floaty as it stands right now (just a tiny smidge to be noticeable).

My second suggestion is more of a detail rather than gameplay related. Could the steps of the character be either louder or sound heavier as they get bigger? Think that'd add some more.... atmosphere(?) to the game, really.

(+1)

These are both things that are in the game, but not as noticable until after the 50% mark which is the approximate maximum in the first level. You don't actually get slower, but you have to deal with a bit of momentum at higher weights, and all the sounds pitch down linearly with your weight. Hopefully the full package will be very satisfying!

(1 edit)

Very nice, thank you! I ended up checking your other releases here on itch, I CANNOT wait how this one develops.

Had fun with this! But I had noticable slowdown in the first map after being able to move around, not sure why that is.

The game isn't super well-optimized in its current state, unfortunately. I should probably look into adding some more quality settings, but lowering the resolution might help.

I might look into that when I replay this in the future, that sounds like a good idea. I'm looking forward to seeing what the updates for this game will bring.

Amazing demo. I donated (albeit not much) because I NEED to see more.

(+1)

You son of a biscuit, I love it. Donated too!

Seems like you have a solid game here! Looking forward to more levels!

  • There is a problem, the start game button in a new game does not work the same way as the exit button, and the continue button darkens the game and nothing happens. I hope this problem will be solved because I am very interested in the game

I'll look into this. I experienced some long load times starting new games in testing, it might just be taking a super long time.

i doubt that it's taking long to load, just double checked that to see if the game would load after all and i quit after 20 mins of waiting.

Yeah, it seems like it's an issue with the code I'm using to create save files. I'm currently working on a fix for this.

oh this is LOVELY i had a great time with it!! keep up the great work!!

(+1)(-1)

soo, the "begin game" button doesn't work when starting new game and pressing continue just blacks out the screen without anything getting loaded

I'll see what I can do about this. I experienced some long load times starting new games in testing, it might just be taking a super long time.

ULTRAFAT

A legit fun little adventure I can't wait to see more of this game!
